Indianapolis KidsGames 2006
Dates
Addressing children’s needs in a single neighborhood is a daunting challenge. Finding a strategy to impact the lives of children in cities, towns, villages and islands in every country of the world would seem impossible. Yet in the last six years a concept called KidsGames has spread from its start in Cairo, Egypt in 2000 to 75 countries, including in the USA the city of Indianapolis. Through KidsGames children around the world are being impacted! KidsGames is a blend of the ceremonies and competitions of a sports festival, with the fellowship, values based lessons and activities. KidsGames is planned and implemented by organizations in a city working together. Not only can they do much more together than alone, but also unity develops between the organizations, and between their leaders. Furthermore, they join a rapidly expanding network of KidsGames leaders around the world who communicate with one another; share the resources they develop; and plan how KidsGames can be sustained where it exists, and replicated in other cities and countries. In June 2002, a partnership of two neighborhood associations; ten churches; and two community centers held the first Indianapolis KidsGames at four sites, serving 260 children. It was an amazing experience for everyone involved. We are now planning our third generation KidsGames for June 2006. We will have 20 or more sites serving 3,000 or more children. We would welcome your Church or Center to join the partnership, this year, as a KidsGames site or as a partner at another site furnishing facilities, kids, and volunteers. See you in 2008!
